100% Plastics Recycling Set To Become Reality!

If you’re conscientious about plastic disposal and your business is taking steps to ensure that all your plastics are recycled, it’s a little disheartening to think that while 300,000 tonnes of plastic are recycled in the UK each year, a million tonnes still ends up in landfill.

Not anymore!

WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) is taking steps to increase the amount of plastic recycling to 100%, by developing and trialling technologies that will enable the sorting and recycling of black plastics, complex laminated plastics, plastic films and polypropylene (PP). These items that have ended up in landfill in the past will now be sorted, recycled and reused.
The use of new technologies will transform the way that different products are recycled, impacting significantly on the amount of plastic going to landfill. By using non-carbon pigments in the manufacture of black plastics, it will become possible for these plastics to be identified during mechanical sorting at MRFs. This could lead to the widespread recycling of the most common plastic used in packaging – turning it into high value single-polymer materials.
Complex laminated packaging, such as that used in toothpaste tubes and cosmetics can be recycled to reduce the amount of plastic going to landfill and also to recycle the valuable aluminium. This could reduce plastics in landfill by up to 140,000 tonnes; increasing the current rate of plastics recycling by nearly 50%!
Other recycling initiatives are still in development as the commitment to reducing the amount of nonPET plastics going to landfill continues.

The Alternative to Costly Skip Hire

One of the first necessities that springs to mind when you have to clear out a large load of rubbish is a skip. Whether you’re knocking down a garage or emptying a loft; a skip is normally the perfect solution for getting rid of large amounts of unwanted waste.

However, as useful as they are, there are still several problems that can surface when using skips. Firstly, the cost of skip hire can sometimes be quite expensive, so you need to make sure you get one at bargain prices. Secondly, they need to be close to your property to provide any real benefits. Of course, this isn’t a problem if you live somewhere where the roads are spacious and permits aren’t needed, but it can often be something of a nightmare if you live in a highly regulated built-up area such as Greater London.

Thankfully, we here at Orion can provide an easy solution to these particular problems with our “wait and load” waste collection service. This simple service entails one our small teams coming to your residential or business premises, loading up your waste on their truck and driving it away. There are no permits involved, no skips to move and, as you only pay for the waste removed, you won’t be paying over the odds either. “Wait and load” really is a very fast and efficient service. And, if you call us before 11am, we can even deal with your waste clearance that very same day.

Waste Disposal and Recycling

Everybody generates rubbish that they eventually need to dispose of. No matter if you are a private consumer or a commercial business, waste is an unavoidable by-product of our modern society. In years gone by, practically every type of waste was taken to landfill sites and deposited without much thought given to the after-effects. However now that environmental concerns have become much more of an issue, ideas concerning waste disposal have understandably changed.

Today, recycling offers a far more responsible and sustainable approach to the whole rubbish removal and disposal process. Quite simply, any person or company who chooses to engage in recycling is helping to do the planet a big, big favour. Recycling items instead of simply dumping them helps to cut down on the pollution and subsequent carbon emissions created from the ever-increasing amounts of landfill waste. In the bigger picture, this helps to reduce the effects of global warming and ensures our planet retains sufficient supplies of materials to sustain our way of living.

Waste recycling can also offer financial benefits as well. Indeed, it is typically cheaper to recycle waste than it is to dispose of it through traditional means. In fact, certain items can even earn you money when you take them to be recycled.

Being environmentally aware with your waste can not only help to save the planet, it can also help to save you money (or even make a profit). Browse our web pages further to find out more.
